History of creation

From electromechanical to electronic device with a wireless connection.

In 1999, an order was received from the Northern Energy System NEK “Ukrenergo” (Kharkiv) for the manufacture of a device for testing oil instead of morally and physically outdated devices AIM-80 for oil testing. Development and prototyping continued for two years. As a result, the first UIM-90 electromechanical device was released, which worked for 11 years, was modernized in 2012, and to this day it works in the Northern Energy System “Ukrenergo”. In 2002, technical specifications TU U33.2-14102968-003-2002 were registered.

Devices of the first modification were released 180 devices. They work in Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and other countries. Proved as reliable, unpretentious and easy to use devices. In addition, the use of interlocks (opening the cover, absence of a cell, overvoltage, etc.) significantly increased the safety and reliability of the device. These devices have the following specifications:

  • breakdown voltage - 90 kV
  • reduced measurement error of breakdown voltage - 4%
  • overall dimensions - 530 × 325 × 345 (mm)
  • weight (net) - 50 kg
In 2007, in connection with the widespread introduction of the microprocessor base, the UIM-90 control unit was completely redesigned and the updated 217 series device was released. In it, the control circuit is assembled on one monoplate with the use of modern element base and SMD assembly, and the accuracy of measurement of the breakdown voltage is also improved (in accordance with PMA 29-4 / 1992). Electromechanical relays were replaced with semiconductor switches and a modern industrial switching power supply unit was installed, which reduced energy consumption and ensured a quiet and comfortable work with the device. The voltage boosting system was significantly reworked, the gearbox and the outdated reversing engine DSDR-2 were removed, which increased the reliability of the device. The scheme of registration of electrical breakdown of a liquid dielectric was completely changed, which reduced the current in the breakdown channel and, thus, reduced the decomposition of the dielectric. The LED panels are replaced by an LCD display, which allows you to increase the amount of displayed information and viewing of the result of the previous test.

The installation also received an electronic processor control, which allows it to work in a manual or fully automatic cycle. Now it is possible to change the settings and perform tests both in accordance with GOST 6581-75, IEC 60156: 1995, and with any other non-standard parameter settings. Settings are stored in non-volatile memory. A device for mixing a dielectric sample, which is highly reliable, was developed and applied in the device. Thanks to the listed innovations, the mass of the installation and its overall dimensions are significantly reduced:

  • overall dimensions - 520 × 315 × 335 (mm)
  • weight (net) - 32 kg

To improve the reliability of work, a number of improvements were introduced (for example, the electromechanical mixing device was completely reworked and replaced with an electromagnetic one without an engine and gearbox) and the 218 and 219 series, which are not fundamentally different from each other, were released. Since 2007, a total of 130 units have been manufactured and are still in operation.

In 2013-2014 the development and modernization of the UIM-90 (series 220) was carried out, connected with the growing need to save the test results and print them out on the printer. A wireless communication module of the installation with a personal computer was introduced and the corresponding software was developed, which allowed saving all test results on a PC, working with the test database, including sorting them according to the criteria set by the operator, printing the results, analyzing them, etc. The monoplat has been reworked, which has significantly simplified installation and increased the reliability of the i device. The developed software is easy to use, does not require maintenance and is constantly being improved according to requirements of the Customer. New versions of it are available on our website. The high-voltage transformer has been reworked, which made it possible to reduce the mass of the device below 30 kg. At present, more than 100 devices of the 220 series are in operation in the near and far abroad. Specifications are as follows:

Work on improving the device continues. The development of an electronic device for voltage rise has been almost completed, which will greatly facilitate the device and increase the reliability of the used node. In addition, there is technical support for all previously released devices, starting in 2001. Outdated devices, starting with the very first, can be upgraded to the latest series while preserving the case and the high-voltage transformer.
